Get a written estimate

Tell us about the driveway, lot or road. We measure it, check the base and the water, and put a real price in writing.

No obligation. A written price after the site visit.

What we are, plainly

No slogans. Here is what you are actually hiring.

An Asheville paving crew

Based in Asheville, paving across Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood and Transylvania counties.

A price in writing

We measure the driveway and check the base before we price it. The written estimate lists every line and what would move the number.

Base first, then blacktop

Soft spots dug out, the lot graded to shed water, crushed stone compacted, then hot mix. Skipping the base is how driveways fail early.

Water decides everything

On a mountain lot, the rain decides how long asphalt lasts. Crown, edges, ditches and culverts get checked before the mat goes down.

The honest fix

Sometimes a sealcoat or a patch is all a driveway needs. We say so before we sell a new one.

Honest about the season

Hot mix needs warm, dry weather to compact, so mountain paving runs spring through fall. We tell you when the weather is wrong for your job.

How a job runs

Five steps, in the order they happen.

1

You send the form

The town, roughly how long and steep, and what is there now is enough to start.

2

We measure and read the water

Length, width, grade, the base under it and where the rain goes. This is where the number comes from.

3

A written estimate

Grading, base, paving and any drainage work, each as a line item.

4

Grade, base, pave

The lot shaped to shed water, stone compacted, hot mix laid and rolled tight.

5

Cure and seal

Light traffic for the first days, and a first sealcoat once the asphalt has cured.

What we will tell you straight

The things an estimate usually leaves out.

Whether you need new asphalt at all

Cracks and faded blacktop often come back with crack sealing and a sealcoat for a fraction of the price. Sealcoating, explained.

Why the base matters more than the blacktop

Two inches of hot mix on a soft base will rut and crack in a few winters. The stone underneath is what carries the load. How thick it should be.

When tar and chip is the better buy

On a long rural lane, tar and chip can cost far less than hot mix and grips well on a grade. Tar and chip vs asphalt.

Where the price moves

Length, width, grade, base work, culverts and how far the hot mix has to travel. The cost guides show the ranges and what pushes a job to the top. Start with the cost guide.

Under the blacktop

The base work that decides how long it lasts.
